Over the years, some models have become true cult objects. This includes the legendary Blaupunkt “Hamburg SQM 23” from 1983. Now we present the reinterpretation of the popular 1-DIN car radio, combining the design of the 80s model with new technologies and features. The result is the Blaupunkt “Hamburg SQM 23 DAB”.

Its operating concept, the simple design, and the crystal-clear reception contributed significantly to the popularity of the original Hamburg car radio. For this reissue, we have retained the styling of the original model while simultaneously giving the radio a modern multicolor illumination for the LCD display. The button labels, previously illuminated with incandescent bulbs, have now been replaced by modern and durable warm white LEDs. This illumination can also be activated via the vehicle's lighting system when the car radio is switched off. Excellent reception remains a strength of the new classic car radio thanks to the Blaupunkt Codem FM RDS tuner and DAB+ digital tuner. New features include multimedia interfaces for modern Apple® devices and USB mass storage media for music playback or charging mobile phones. The new model also supports Bluetooth® audio streaming from apps such as music players or streaming services like Spotify on your mobile phone. Using your mobile phone's voice assistant (such as Siri, Google Assistant, or Alexa), you can access your phone without having to pick it up. Hands-free calling is also supported. To directly select an audio source such as USB, Apple iPod, or Bluetooth, a button on the device can be programmed via the menu to start your favorite source. The device settings are permanently saved, even when the battery is disconnected – although this is no longer necessary thanks to the minimized standby power consumption to conserve battery power. The new “Hamburg SQM 23 DAB” has a shallow installation depth – ideal for classic cars with shortened mounting slots. But it's not just the car radio itself that takes the user on a journey back in time; the packaging of the device has also been elaborately designed and modeled after the original.

Multicolour LCD and Front USB

The display of the Hamburg SQM 23 DAB can be set to 7 different colors and thus adapted to the vehicle's specific cockpit lighting. One of the two USB ports is hidden behind the front flap. Short USB sticks can thus be visually concealed behind the flap to maintain the original look.
